Ted Toms was born in Chelmsford and studied at Colchester School of Art, where he was taught life drawing and painting by some leading contemporary figurative artists, including Peter Coker, John Nash and Peter Blake.
He finds inspiration for his landscape and seascape painting from the Stour
Estuary, close to his studio in Bradfield in Essex and from frequent visits
to the Rhine Valley in Germany.
'The fresh and uplifting oil paintings of Ted Toms are popular
throughout the country. His studio in Bradfield, Essex is close to the Stour
Estuary and he takes much of his inspiration from here. Beautiful dappled
sunlight bounces from serene rippled North Sea surfaces, while mysterious
broken reflections disappear into the quietly rolling tide. Both soft and
bold his brushstrokes and palette are dreamy and yet at times produce super
real views that are poised to come to life'

His work is in private collections in the UK, Europe and the United States.
